May 4th - May 15th WSES 3rd-6th grader will be taking the WV General Summative Assessment. Testing schedule is as follows: May 5th - writing, May 7th -science (5th grade only), May 13th - ELA and May 14th - math. Students with accommodations and make up testing will be given throughout those two weeks. Please be sure to have your child(ren) at school no later than 8am. Testing will start shortly after 8am. A new state requirement during testing is that students are not permitted to wear hoodies and/or coats/jackets with hoods during the test. Once the class is finished with the test, students may put on their hoodies and/or jackets.
Be sure to sign your child up for Energy Express and/or Summer Sole at WSES! PK-6 welcome at Summer Sole. Program runs from June 15-July 23rd, 8:30-2:30 Monday-Thursday, breakfast and lunch served, transportation provided. Pick up and drop off sites will be announced later. Register online for Summer Sole! Register as soon as possible!
Energy Express applications may be picked up at WSES. Children may attend Energy Express in the morning then join Summer Sole in the afternoons.

Webster County families with incoming kindergarten students are encouraged to register and attend this year’s Taste of Kindergarten, a special Move-Up Day event designed to help children and their families get a comfortable, confident start to school.
Hosted by Glade Elementary and Webster Springs Elementary on May 21, 2026, the event offers a welcoming introduction to kindergarten through hands-on activities, school tours, and opportunities to connect with teachers and staff.
Families who attend can expect a full, engaging experience for both students and parents. Children will participate in classroom activities, read-alouds, and play-based learning opportunities, while parents and guardians can attend informative workshops covering school procedures, attendance expectations, and kindergarten readiness.
The event also includes:
*Meet-and-greet opportunities with teachers and staff
*Classroom and school tours
*A registration workshop for families who still need to enroll
*Take-home literacy and numeracy kits to support learning at home
Each school will follow a structured schedule that includes student activities, parent sessions, and a celebration of learning to wrap up the day.
Families who have not yet registered their child for kindergarten—those who did not attend a Webster County Pre-K program—are strongly encouraged to complete registration prior to the event using the QR code or online link located on the attached flyers. Current Webster County Pre-K students do not need to enroll, as their enrollment is already complete.

It will be held April 29th from 5:30-8:00 pm at Webster Springs Elementary. The event is open to anyone. This is a wonderful opportunity to build a support network if you have or know someone with special needs. Join us for an evening of fun, fitness, and healthy habits for the whole family. You will learn about fun and easy ways to promote a healthy body image and make healthy choices together. Healthy snacks will be provided, and the evening will wrap up with a parents vs. students basketball game. Come join the fun. All families with elementary-aged children are welcome.
