Governor Patrick Morrisey has signed into law Senate Bill 280, a measure that mandates the display of the United States national motto, “In God We Trust,” in all public elementary and secondary schools, and institutions of higher education across West Virginia. The law took effect on July 11, 2025.

To assist schools in meeting the new requirement, approximately 2,500 signs reading “In God We Trust” have already been donated, through efforts by organizations including Patriot Mobile and First Liberty Institute. These signs will be distributed to school districts statewide.
