Perry Knight shows off the new AccuVein Equipment

The Highlander Health Science Program was recently able to purchase an AccuVein illumination device with the help of a grant written by their instructor, Mrs. Beth Roberts. Additional funding for the purchase of the AccuVein long-reach wheeled stand was provided by Haven Youth Coalition monies donated to the program this school year.

An AccuVein device is a vein visualization tool that projects a vivid map on the skin detailing underlying superficial veins, bifurcations, and intra-luminal valves. The Highlander Health Science Program obtained the vein finder, along with the wheeled stand to assist with learning phlebotomy techniques. Using infrared technology, this device aids medical service providers in finding a patient's vein with greater speed and accuracy, reducing the number of sticks needed to obtain blood for lab work or IV placement.

Mrs. Roberts and her students would like to thank the HAVEN Youth Coalition for providing the funds to purchase the wheeled stand that allows us to use this cutting-edge device hands-free!
